Our Gift to You - The Story of Ansin

Hey Subscribers!

It has been some time since we wrote a blog. This is due to the tremendous order volume we have experienced! We appreciate our customers that are interested in Battle Ready Medieval Weapons & Battle Ready Swords.

It amazes me how many visitors are also interested in buying fantasy swords for decoration in our shop while they buy a weapon to practice with at the same time.

We wanted to take a moment to relay one of our favorite stories about warriors preparing for battle during a holiday season. During a cold snowy night, small firepits could been seen across the fields of Glendalough. The breath of men fell to the ground as soon as it met the crisp night air. Though mead was plentiful, and spirits were as strong as the drinks being consumed. This day was a day to remember. This day was the day one was chosen to lift the people of Wicklow to new heights.
The men anxiously waited for the mistress of the mountains to call upon one of them. Each man boasted on how he would be the chosen one. How he would be anointed to take a battle ready sword into the heart of the mountain. How he would use his cunning & strength to bring back the head of a Beast of Exmoor. The men were so over run with thier own boasting and haughtiness, they did not notice the small child shivering near a dying fire.
The Child, Ansin, had lost his family to the winter chill less than 4 days prior. He sat near the fire in hopes he could find soem scraps from the loud group of men. As the fire near Ansin died out, he moved to another fire. As he sat on an empty stump he noticed a metallic glint in the distance and heard the magic of the Fey...

We will post more of Ansin throughout this month. Again this is a favorite story at Usable Weapons.

The fun of Latex Weapons..

Our Latex weapons are foam injected, which means they are more realistic, stronger, and safer than your typical latex weapons. The swords are built around a hybrid rod, which gives the sword it's durability under pressure.

These come in a variety of styles, whether you want fantasy weapons to play with, or realistic historical swords and weapons to test your skills with.

There are many LARP (live action role play) groups that use Latex weapons as their weapon preference, due to the high safety standards these swords provide.

These swords are also great for children! In fact, these are the only weapons we sell at Usableweapons.com that we recommend to children ages 4-14. Of course, parental supervision and proper sword handling techique are recommended. However these will be safe enough for your children to use for either play fighting.

In fact, these swords would also be of great use for any stage performance. Your fights can be more realistic, while your performers remain safe.

The Fechtbuch Sword

The Fetchbuch, also known as "fight manuals", gave medieval students the chance to learn techniques, and were useful aids to the weapon masters of old. This sword was used commonly amoung the old fighting schools, as depicted in many historical fighting manuals, including the Codex Wallerstein.

The classic widened ricasso is distinctive to the Fetchbuch battle ready swords, and were created to support the strength near the tang. These swords had a thick, dull blade for safe practice, making it a useful, common companion to any student learning longsword combat.

Here at usableweapons.com, we have a Fechtbuch sword available. This sword is a wonderful addition to any sword collection, and can also hold up for you during your live steel practice.

We are overstocked with 7 extra swords from the Joan of Arc period. I need to get the 7 off my order list to get great prices from my supplier for other orders.

I normally sell this to friends for $200.00 but need to move it fast and they have already spent their limits for Halloween, so I am offering it at $195.27 to move these fast. After Halloween holding these will not be an issue for me financially, so I will only offer this prices until Oct 31.

Our other selection of Swords and Weapons is always on the site.

What exactly is a wallhanger?

I'm sure some who visit usableweapons.com want to know why we sell wallhangers swords as well as battle ready swords. What's the difference, you ask?

Our battle-ready swords are built for combat. They are built stronger, with durable materials. The battle-ready weapons we sell at usableweapons.com are historically accurate. While fantasy weapons are fun, we learn to appreciate historical weapons, and the masters who spent their lives creating workable, usable, weapons.

A "wall-hanger", as we like to call it, are swords that hold no other main purpose other than to hang on a wall. These tend to be built with cheaper materials, and will not hold up to any form of combat. In fact, nine times out of ten these swords will most likely break if you take them and use them in any type of martial arts combat.

So what's the point of wallhangers, why do we even sell them? They look pretty. Plus, we have all been attracted to swords we see in movies and books. Personally, I love the sword of narsil, shown here. While I would know this sword would never get any real use, it would be a wonderful addition to my living room wall. Plus, it would be an awesome addition to any Aragorn costume.

The best part of our wallhanger collection is the price. Wallhangers are genereally a lot cheaper in price, being that they are meant for decoration only. If you are trying to spruce up your house, apartment, or bedroom; or you needing an amazing sword to accompany your medieval/renaissance costume for an event or a costume party, pick up one of our wallhangers swords which will do the trick at a fraction of our other sword costs.

http://www.usableweapons.com/store-products-200000--15th-Century-Longsword_40978853.html

The longsword, often called a hand-and-half, saw a great deal of service as a weapon of war, but was also employed a great deal as a civilian weapon of self-defense.

Coupled with a dagger, the longsword was an excellent defense against robbers, thieves, footpads, assassins and even some of the robber bands that might roam the countryside.

A good serviceable point allowed it to be used for thrusting, and a medium weight allowed it to be used easily and carried with equal ease. This weight also allowed it to be used with one hand with a dagger in the other. But when needed, it could be gripped with both hands for a very powerful cut. Pommel and guard are steel. Grip is wood wrapped with leather and wire. A beautiful and very functional sword. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.. Includes scabbard. Can be sharpened for additional fee ($20). Shipping for this sword will be

* Overall: 45-1⁄2"

* Blade: 36-1⁄2" long, 1-13⁄16 " wide, 3⁄16 " thick

HSN: Sword Breaking on television

As you can see in the video, most merchants do not know what true battle ready medieval weapons, or battle ready swords, consists of. Watch as this sales guy demonstrates his battle ready weapons knowledge (battle ready medieval weapons, really just a cheap fantasy sword) and it nails him in the arm.

You must develop a great relationship with your seller and be sure that they know what weapons will, and what weapons will not, hold up in battle... or at least practice with your battle ready medieval weapons, or any battle ready weapon.

Medieval Clothing

While many of us will never try to use battle ready medieval weapons, there are those who always will love to compete with medieval swords.

The movie above shows the extremes of battle, though they used their environment to their advantage. Though foam weapons were used in the movie, medieval swords could be used in the same fashion (though only for short periods of time).

The difference between medieval swords and other battle ready medieval weapons is huge. We will coverjavascript:void(0) this in another blog topic. All the battle ready medieval weapons are useful. Though you must know how to us medieval swords, or battle ready medieval weapons will never help your causes.

Why Battle Ready Medieval Weapons Get Bad Press

Battle ready medieval weapons have gotten a bad wrap over the past few years due to videos such as these:

Let's face it, battle ready medieval weapons have nothing to do with "Lightning Bolts". In fact all we can see here are many misfits running around trying to kill the black knight from Monty Python. They are using LARP weapons (latex weapons). Battle ready medieval weapons and LARP Weapons (latex weapons) are very different.

LARP Weapons are geared toward individuals who want to play fast. "Just give me latex weapons so I can hit someone now!" is the general attitude of LARPers when it comes to fighting (though in other posts you will see that they do not only battle).

Battle Ready Medieval Weapons enthusiasts tend to join groups such as TheARMA.org, swordacademy.com, wmaw.us. They are focused on the actual martial art aspect of sword fighting, not the "Fantasy swords are so cool!" mind set that so many battle ready medieval weapon lovers tend to begin with.

Both battle ready medieval weapons enthusiasts, and LARP weapons (latex weapons) groups both are great recreational activites to join into. Simply do some research before you decide to join any battle ready medieval weapons group, or LARP weapons (or latex weapons) group.

Grand Opening

Here at www.UsableWeapons.com our primary goal it to provide functional Medieval Weapons, Medieval Swords, Medieval Clothing, Renaissance Clothing, & Renaissance Costumes. We will move into airsorft, paintball, and other combat oriented sports at some time but we feel strongly that we should build the medieval weapons community first.

Andrek has run a medieval entertainment company for 6 years with his partners Marc Beckstrand and Darin Anderson. He has always enjoyed jousting since he picked up the lance. He as well has participated in Belegarth/Dagorhir since he was 16 years old. "Medieval combat is the greatest thing a yong man can get involved in."

Jennowynne has really been a Trekkie all her life, though when she heard about ARMA (The Association for Renaissance Martial Arts) she wall all in. She grew up loving "The Princess Bride" and has always loved the swordplay, though any medieval/fantasy movie with good swordsmanship will get her interest. As well she especially loves history. Though, she is really a competitor at heart. In fact she loved competition so much that she was upset that the girl scouts were only about feelings, friendship and self discovery. She really just wanted to battle the boy scouts.

UsableWeapons.com has a goal to bring the best functional Medieval Weapons, Medieval Swords, Medieval Clothing, Renaissance Clothing, & Renaissance Costumes at great prices! This is evident in their willingness to give event greater discounts to educational and non-profit organizations. They just love to give back. In fact this year a portion of their profits will go to assist The Christmas House International Foundation. This organization helps foster children with transitions from abusive locations into the real world.

UsableWeapons.com is open for business and ready to serve their customers in any way possible.
