The longsword, often called a hand-and-half sword, saw a great deal of service as a battle ready weapon of war, but was also employed a great deal as a civilian medieval weapon of self-defense. Coupled with a dagger, the longsword was an excellent defense against robbers, thieves, footpads, assassins and even some of the robber bands that might roam the countryside. A good serviceable point allowed the longsword to be used for thrusting, and a medium weight allowed it to be used easily and carried with equal ease. This weight of a longsword also allowed it to be used with one hand with a dagger in the other. But when needed, it could be gripped with both hands for a very powerful cut.

The longsword pommel and guard are complied with steel. The grip is a solid wood wrapped with leather and wire.

In our professional opinion, this is a beautiful and very functional longsword.

I recently purchased one of these planing to refit the guard and pommel properly for a better fit and I was horrified to find that the pommel and guard are nothing but chrome plated brass. I figured this should be known by others planing on using these. I was very disappointed.
